ABOUT US
OUR HISTORY

Located in the heart of Stratford-upon-Avon, The Townhouse occupies a distinguished 400-year-old, Grade II listed building directly opposite Shakespeare’s School. Once a proud Georgian residence, the building has stood through centuries of change, witnessing the growth of this historic market town from its medieval roots to the thriving cultural destination it is today.

Stratford-upon-Avon is world-renowned as the birthplace of William Shakespeare, and traces of its Elizabethan heritage remain at every turn — from timber-framed houses and winding cobbled streets to the serene banks of the River Avon. Founded in the 12th century, the town flourished as a centre for trade and later became a beacon for literature and theatre, attracting visitors from around the globe to celebrate its timeless charm.

Our beautifully restored townhouse offers a peaceful retreat amidst this rich tapestry of history and culture. Just moments from the Royal Shakespeare Company’s theatre and many of the town’s most celebrated landmarks, it’s the perfect place to soak up the atmosphere of old England while enjoying the comforts of modern hospitality.

When you return, relax in comfort and enjoy our delicious, locally sourced menu — the perfect way to end a day exploring this extraordinary town.
